Numerous

using roman numerals
eye v, v, v eye
but counting back we wonder
why time has passed us by
a number translated to word
then word becomes name
we lose ourselves in life
this endless counting game
x we use our fingers
x v with cell phone ringers
x x divine in lovers
around the base
and in the covers
we're all just numbers you see?
from the feeling we invoke
to this pagan symphony

our pupils a sun dial
the lids are setting suns
the heavier the set becomes
the numbers must succumb
digits on our limbs
the way we wake
and sip our coffee brim
amount to the numbers we are
thirteen, one, fourteen, four,
movements echoe in rhythmic
euphore
out on the streets
begging for more
a nickle, two dimes,twenty five
will keep us less than satisfied
for the scarcity; we yearn
are fed by the numbers we must learn
